Maren Hogan

Maren Hogan is interested in virtually everything social media but particularly in how it pertains to the acquisition and management of talent. (Okay, end the part where I write about myself in the third person). I love all things related to design, distribution and attraction. I have not figured out exactly what my title should be but I currently serve as a marketing and new media consultant to several companies.

My dive into the world of talent acquisition (and consequently social media) came through the family business, an executive search firm. I started my old blog Big O Recruiting, as an homage to my current hometown, Omaha, NE and to try and address the dual focus of technology/IT and Recruiting. This blog will cover broader company strategy, marketing tactics, community building, talent attraction and new media (if I dare). But there will still be local flair from time to time.

You can see my writing, videos, and other nonsense at Fistful of Talent, Recruitingblogs.com, HRM Today, Brazen Careerist , Experience Project, Travel Blog Exchange, and GoGalavanting.com

Personal Life: I have a wonderful husband Jeremy and together we are raising three amazing boys: Jackson, Quinlan and Rocky Finn. We live in Midtown Omaha (shout out to Clairmont Heights!). We belong to the AMAZING Waypoint Church, which is changing the way we “do” Christianity. I’m a California Girl, he’s a boy from Duluth, MN. Don’t ask how we ended up here. I have a great TRIO of parents (blended modernistic familia thank you) and loads (actually four) beautiful sisters, not even counting Jeremy’s amazing parents, and his sisters and their hubbies. So, suffice to say, I am blessed with tons of family.

I love travel, interior design, typography, singing, dancing, meeting new people, chips and salsa, cooking, eating, fashion, social media, business strategy, promotions, connecting people, technology (even when I don’t understand it!), writing, reading, graphic design, video editing, event planning, networking, what I do and a lovely dinner with good friends. (Obviously this is not an exhaustive list!)

Greetings Maren. Great stuff here! We randomly pick people… and you’re it. Love to make you a free custom TweetPage (www.tweetpages.com) for your Twitter backgound. Tried to find an email link… but couldn’t so I used comments here. Feel free to delete :) Don’t find many Maren’s in life (my mother’s name is Maren – uno… the constant… like Karen but with an “M”). Swing by the site TweetPages.com to see some we’ve designed. Have a great day.

Matt Clark – creative guru and design extraordinaire!

Hello Maren
Have just arrived at your blog and love the look and feel of it – I have worked in tourism marketing in the UK for most of my workng life. I orginally trained and worked as a teacher of art and then got the travel bug and started my tourism career with Contiki Travel an international tour operator that took 18-35’s from Oz and US around Europe – and then spent 10 fantastic years as Mktg Drector for the London Tourist Board and had the privelege of promoting London worldwide. I can still remember going to a meeting and telling my colleagues about the internet and getting v excited about creating a webiste and being told it will never take off! I imagine that shows my age.Anyway good luck with all your projects – I’ll put a link in my very new blog – only 2 weeks old and in need of a well designed template and I’m spending too much time looking for the right one – something I’d never allow my clients to do!
I have to confess that I had to look up where Omaha is – sorry! But I imagine you will have to do the same if I tell you I live in Whitstable in Kent.

Hi Maren,

I came across your site over the last couple of weeks while getting my head around social media and employment marketing ideas. I do a similar kind of work to you in Australia, working in-house with companies to help them manage their reputations and employment brands.

It’s been great reading your posts and following you on Twitter. There’s not much talk along these lines locally, so it’s been great to hear your thoughts. Stimulating stuff! Looking forward to hearing and reading more!
